The New York Geographic Alliance (NYGA)
NYGA seeks to promote and improve geographic education from kindergarten through university throughout New York State. As a discipline, geography is disappearing in our schools, and more than ever, there is a need to revitalize geographic education in the state's classrooms.
We are dedicated to working with teachers in providing geographic training and resources, to actively foster standard-based geographic learning, to infuse geography in other disciplines, and to promote geography training for pre-service teachers.
Events
The New York Geographic Alliance is your portal to what's going on in geography. In this section you will find articles on what we are doing, our members are doing, and what's happening in other parts of the country.
Membership
We encourage all teachers, informal educators, college professors, and other lovers of geography to join the New York Geographic Alliance. It's easy and it's FREE! When you join online you get priority registration to NYGA events and many free materials and other resources. Don't worry. We keep our information private.
Resources
Since we value geographic education, we want our members and friends to have the resources they need to be successful in their teaching. On this page you will be able to download lessons, maps, and other materials for educational use. If you would like other resources available, let us know, and we can post them.
News
Geography needs to be current. Periodically, we try to include articles of interest about geographic topics. If teachers have held a special event at their school, we try to report on it. We also use this section to inform readers about New York geography in our series, u-NY-que.
