Geography Workshop - The World GeoHistoGram

The New York Geographic Alliance, the Niagara Falls Teacher Center, and Orleans-Niagara BOCES  are partnering to hold a workshop for Global History and Geography teachers on April 2, 2020. It is a three-hour after school workshop (4-7 PM) that will feature a great teaching resoruce, the World GeoHistoGram. The workshop will be held at Niagara Falls High School, 4455 Porter Road, Niagara Falls, NY.

During this workshop, Timothy McDonnell, Coordinator of the NYGA, will explain how the GeoHIstoGram is set up, and he will practice lessons with the teachers on how to use it effectively with their students. This resource is centered around a timeline that combines history and geography since 4000 BCE. It shows the spread and influence of empires during all time periods. For example, did you know that the Han Dynasty in China was contemporaneous with the Roman Empire in the Mediterranean? During the workshop, we will plot the spread of iron technology and other inventions and the spread of religion over time. There are several other lessons that will also be demonstrated. All participants will receive resources, including posters and digital lessons on a flash drive.

We are currently working out the details for this workshop with the teacher centers. Most likely, they will be responsible for registering teachers, and they will contact all the schools in their region. If you are not in the Niagara or Orleans Regions, contact Tim McDonnell, if you are interested in attending. If room is available, you might be able to register. Updates will be coming in 2020! You can call the NYGA Office at (585)-292-2398 for further information.

This is what the GeoHistoGram looks like. Participants will receive much bigger copies.
